Hi! Today, I’m going to share with you my IKEA hack. So I went to IKEA on the weekend. I love IKEA. It’s my happy place. And I was looking around for some new things for the house and I thought I could show you how I’ve used the things that you use every day to help me lose weight and keep my eating under control.
They say you eat with your eyes. I used to eat with very big fork and very big spoon (haha), but that all changed.
There’s a few things. The first thing is portion control. Sometimes it’s hard to think too much and I find the easiest thing to do is the 20-cm rule. So when you buy plates for either yourself or your family, 20-cm across the middle of the plate, end to end. What it does is it stops you overloading your plate so you end up with more food on there just because the plate looks empty. If you have a smaller plate, the same amount of food looks like much more food rather than less food so you don’t feel like you’re eating less. The 20-cm place is your friend. I got this one from IKEA. I think it was like $2 or something maybe $2.50.
Do the same with your bowls. Don't go for the massive, big bowl that fits 6 litres of milk in it! Get the small bowls. Small, dainty. It fits a nice amount of food in it and that, you’d fit a really comfortable cup of protein and a cup of vegetables. The perfect size and for your breakfast in the morning too, your cup of fruit. Excellent. Love it.
Together they look very pretty on the plate too. You can go for some pretty visual display when you serve with napkins, etc.
This is my biggest secret. The 500 ml glass. You have to drink 2 litres of water every day on the program. Sometimes it gets hard and I think “oh my God”, I look at the 2-litre bottle of water and it’s so intimidating. ”I’m going to have to drink that all day”. I hate drinking water but I know I have to drink four glasses every day easier than looking at the 2L bottle. So I wake up and I have my drops and then straight away, I have a glass of water. I put my lemon and apple cider vinegar in the water as well. That gets that out of the way and it gives it some taste too. That’s my morning.
Morning tea, I’ll do the same thing. About 10:00 or 10:30, ust drink a whole glass of water. Skull it down. Before I eat lunch, take my drops, then another glass of water. Then the same thing before dinner. That’s my 2 litres a day. It’s not so scary when it’s just a glass of water. I don't have to drink the whole bottle and feel bloated.
The other thing is that like I said, we eat with our eyes. Try if you can to make your meals pretty. Like start paying attention to your presentation and the taste rather than the quantity of food you’re going to shove in your mouth. I know it’s hard sometimes but there are little things that you can do to make it easier. If you’re doing it just for yourself, I sometimes think that that’s much easier that the whole family, but there’s no reason that your family should be eating different meals to you. You should all be eating the same thing. You can pimp up your kid’s meals or your partners if they want different food. But as long as you keep your portions under control, you should all be eating the same things.
I’m just going to take a little photo of my IKEA hack. This beautiful napkin holder. It was a couple of dollars. And a little tray to put it all on. It’s a nice treat when it comes to meal times. It doesn't have to be expensive. This is just a little thing that can help you a lot. Take a look.
